Q: what are the main types of desiccant?
Answer: currently there are five typical desiccant products in the desiccant industry:
(1) Silica gel desiccant - the main component is silica, from the natural mineral after purification and processing into granular or beaded. As a desiccant, its microporous structure (average 2A) has a good affinity for water molecules.The most suitable moisture absorption environment of silica gel is room temperature (20~32), high humidity (60~90%), it can reduce the relative humidity of the environment to about 40%.
(2) Clay desiccant (montmorillonite) - the shape of it is gray pellet, the most suitable for moisture absorption in the environment below 50℃.When the temperature is higher than 50℃, the degree of "releasing water" of clay is greater than the degree of "absorbing water".But clay has the advantage of being cheap.
(3) Molecular sieve desiccant - it is a synthetic desiccant product with strong adsorption to water molecules.The pore size of molecular sieve can be controlled by different processing techniques. Besides absorbing water vapor, it can also absorb other gases.At a high temperature above 230℃, water molecules still can be well contained moisture. .Advantages: stronger adaptable.Disadvantages: low moisture absorption rate, poor environmental protection (non-degradation).
(4) Mineral desiccant - Topcod mineral desiccant is composed of several natural minerals, the appearance of it is white small balls. It is non-toxic and harmless, is degradable environmental protection desiccant. Hygroscopic rate is more than 50% and it is twice of ordinary silica gel.
